Shining Rock Mountain
| Shining Rock Mountain located in the Pisgah National Forest, is accessed from the Blue Ridge Parkway above Rosman, NC on the Art Loeb Trail. The parking lot is near mile post 420 on Forest Service Road 816. The trail led us over Black Balsam Knob (elevation 6214 ft.), which has a spectacular 360 degree view, on across Tennent Mountain and into the Shining Rock Wilderness through countless thousands of wild blueberry bushes to Shining Rock. |

This picture shows a portion of Shining Rock, which is a very large rock cluster made of white quartz. Our group had lunch on top of the rocks and we were truly amazed at the size of this quartz deposit.

Lunchtime on top of some rocks for which the mountain is named.

Our hike to Shining Rock brought us through thousands wild blueberry bushes. The berries were at their peak and were delicious. This picture shows an example of a beautiful group of berries on the trail just before Shining Rock. August 29, 2001
